Ottawa Downtown Association Announces New Downtown Block Party and Fireworks Viewing Experience for July 4

Downtown Ottawa map, showing location of fireworks display, music in the park in Jordan Block, and viewing areas surrounding Old Central School Lot.

OTTAWA, IL — The Ottawa Downtown Association is excited to announce a new and expanded 4th of July celebration in conjunction with Ottawa’s annual Fireworks Display.

This year, fireworks will be launched from the Old Central School Lot. For the safety of attendees and event personnel, public access to the launch area will be restricted throughout the evening. To create an even better viewing experience, we are transforming the south end of downtown Ottawa into a family-friendly Fourth of July Block Party.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m., downtown visitors are invited to gather near the Jordan Block for an evening of entertainment, food, and patriotic festivities. The celebration will feature a live performance by Libido Funk Circus, presented by the Ottawa Special Events Group.

Attendees can enjoy food and refreshments throughout the evening, including sweet treats from Tropical Sno Two Rivers in the park and fireworks-viewing snacks from La Michoacana Ottawa along Woodward Memorial Drive.

Families will find plenty to enjoy, including a festive balloon backdrop perfect for Fourth of July photos and face painting for children. Ottawa Poet Laureate René Parks will present a special poem commemorating America’s 250th anniversary, written specifically for Ottawa’s celebration.

To accommodate the festivities, Woodward Memorial Drive will be closed to traffic at Canal Street, and Clinton Street will be closed at Main Street. The entire section of Woodward Memorial Drive and surrounding parking areas will be reserved for spectators, providing ample space for lawn chairs and fireworks viewing.

As dusk approaches, the evening will feature a ceremonial presentation of the colors and the American flag, followed by a performance of the National Anthem by Ottawa native Ryan Wotherspoon.

The celebration will conclude with Ottawa’s spectacular annual fireworks display lighting up the night sky over downtown.

No Parking Areas

For the safety of attendees and to ensure clear access for emergency personnel, parking will be prohibited in the following areas:

  • North side of Allen Park
  • Along Route 71 above Allen Park
  • 200 Block of East Prospect Avenue
  • 100 Block of Catherine Street

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, follow all posted parking restrictions, and allow extra time to find parking.

The Ottawa Downtown Association looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for an unforgettable evening of community, patriotism, family fun, and fireworks.

T-Shirt Fundraiser Pre-Orders Live Until June 22!

In addition to the festivities, attendees can support the future of Ottawa’s Fourth of July celebration through the official 2026 Ottawa Fireworks T-Shirt Fundraiser. Commemorative shirts featuring a custom patriotic design are available for purchase, with proceeds helping fund future fireworks displays and community celebrations. The fundraiser offers residents and visitors an opportunity to show their hometown pride while ensuring that Ottawa’s Independence Day tradition continues for years to come.
